The Derby 2013

The Derby     Epsom  4.00

I am posting up my thoughts on the Derby today
more so out of public demand than because it
is my favoured betting option today.

Full members I have actually pointed to an 8/1
shot riding at Newcastle this evening planning  to follow
on from yesterday’s NEEDY MCCREDIE 9/1 advised winner.

Returning to this afternoon however all eyes will be on The Derby

The Derby this year is about whether the best horse in
the race DAWN APPROACH stays 12f. Far too much has
been written already about this and nobody will know
until after the race. My pennys worth doesnt matter but
I do have my doubts about him staying and have been
persuaded by the arguments against him and given he
is a very short price I’d rather take something each way
against him. You can be wrong about the stamina issue
yet still come out ahead. I wasnt keen on MARS having
just one run this year in the Guineas. FESTIVE CHEER’s
the Aidan O’Brien 3rd string so not for me. CHOPIN has
not got enough positive points much as he isn’t easy to
read. LIBERTARIAN wouldn’t be first choice but that’s a
bit down to Racing snobbery. OCOVANGO needs to be
respected but he is drawn one and it will be difficult to
win from that draw. I respect RULER OF THE WORLD a
lot but I prefer his stablemate BATTLE OF MARENGO a
horse that would be Top rated were it not for the short
priced favourite. He looks the natural each way bet.

I have had to come to terms with advising a bet in
the Derby with Cheekpieces but Joseph O’Brien is
riding and has rejected the other Coolmore horses
and times and training patterns change and I can
live with it. The favourite may win but I am more
persuaded by the argument against him staying
than those that say he will. I dont think he is one
of those bet to nothings each way but BATTLE
OF MARENGO looks to me like the second best
horse and a bet each way.

But consider stongly as well the Derby special offers from
victor chandler and Ladbrokes who will return as free bet cash
up to £50 and £25 respectively if Dawn Approach wins.
That is quite attractive extra insurance.

These are offers open to all customers not just new ones.
See their sites for full terms.

Kempton Horse Racing Tip

A nice winner last week for readers here.

Lingfield has been abandoned but I suppose it
is a bonus that Kempton has survived. That is
the only English card today. For paying clients
I have previewed the first six races there only
leaving the finale alone a race that looks a bit
too dangerous.

I have three staked bets for them today.
A short price – A Medium price – And a Big Price

Here on the free horse betting blog I will stick up
for you the medium price option.

Kempton   1.45

9/4 Glastonberry, 11/4 Climaxfortackle, 4/1 Big Sylv
8/1 Amosite, 8/1 Chambles, 10/1 Zing Wing
12/1 Dancing Welcome, 25/1 Ishiamiracle.

This is a fillies handicap over 7f. Not too many of
these races are run at this time of year and that
makes it harder to judge things like age. So far
none of the races went to horses aged 7 or over
so both DANCING WELCOME and  AMOSITE
are unlike any winners. I would not trust such a
stat based on a small sample size but they did
not attract me anyway. ZING WING doesnt feel
safe with his absence. ISHIAMIRACLE is out of
form. I see a strong case for GLASTONBERRY
who’s been in fine form but she has very little in
the way of backclassbackclass and she has to
give weight to horses who have achieved more
than her. CHAMBLES isn’t out of this with fair
excuses last time. BIG SYLV’s profile is good
enough to consider and CLIMAXFORTACKLE
also comes out well and has a good recent run.

Conclusion

Given the prices I originally thought  there was a case to make
about overlooking Glastonberry for an alternative
each way bet but a non runner has ruined the each way frame of the race.
Much depends on how BIG SYLV
copes down in trip and on her first run on a right
handed track and how CLIMAXFORTACKLE gets
on going up in distance. I just prefer the latter.

Aintree Horse Betting Advice

Looks another classy Saturday and fascinating racing again and I have covered
something from every track this afternoon for the full member message.
The flat is closing down now and much of this is rubbish but there are
still some really intersting races. The National Hunt cards are getting better all the time.
It’s as least as good as the flat today and they
contribute a lot to the 16 Saturday previews but the problem yet again is the
best racing is saved for Saturday and there is simply not enough time to do it all justice.

I am having one full bet for full members today in the 2.30 at Doncaster.
Here on the free blog I am posting up one from slightly further down the full member message.
It almost made full bet status but not quite.

Aintree   1.50

For latest live odss see here

Not ready yet for big field Aintree Handicap Hurdles.
I did notice from 7 past renewals that horses that came from Novice races were 0-16
so I would raise a question mark about favourite CAPE EXPRESS as well as KARTANIAN as well.
I want to oppose these. There are several that have acceptable profiles.
AGENT ARCHIE and NAMPOUR look threatsbut I was drawn to EMPIRE LEVANT first time out.
He had no chance at last years festival over 2m 5f as he doesnt stay.
He wants to race over 18f or less on good ground and on a flat track
and these are his conditions and I think he is a far better bet than the favourite here.

EMPIRE LEVANT 4/1 ( best odds guaranteed )  at stan james

Saturday Racing Tip at Uttoxeter

UTTOXETER 2.35 -  PACHA D´OUDAIRIES

9/2 at s james

This horse has been dropping fast in the ratings so
is now able to slot in nicely to a weak 0-100 Chase
having been rated significantly higher in the recent
past. He has not fulfilled his potential for a stronger
stable last year but he doesn’t need to fulfill it to be
competetive in this race and I think there is a case
to argue that he could outclass these horses today.

UTTOXETER 2.35

Richard Wilcoxson Memorial
Novices´ Handicap Chase (CLASS 4)
(5yo+ 0-100) 2m5f

11/4 Festival Dreams, 3/1 Handtheprizeover
4/1 Pacha D´oudairies, 9/2 Mister Wiseman, 11/2 Innominate
20/1 Delgany Gunner, 50/1 Action Hawk.

This is a Novice Handicap Chase over 2m 5f. Not an easy
race and 7 runners dont help. I looked at all similar races
at this time of year. I wasnt keen on MISTER WISEMAN
as an exposed horse with an absence. I wasnt prepared to
be with HANDTHEPRIZEOVER as a 6 year old coming
up in distance when lightly raceed this season. I could not
see a case for either of the outsiders DELGANY GUNNER
or ACTION HAWK. I respect INNOMINATE but I could
not match him to any winners and he is lighter raced this
season. FESTIVAL DREAMS has a good chance and looks
a big threat here. PACHA D´OUDAIRIES has to be the
best bet here. He is essentially dissapointing but he is now
rated 100 and thrown in on his hurdles form. He has far
more backclass than FESTIVAL DREAMS and has now
slipped in nicely to a 0-100 class race. He should be able
to outclass these and  PACHA D´OUDAIRIES is the bet.

Newmarket Longshot

NEWMARKET 1.50

victor chandler Challenge Stakes (Group 2)
(CLASS 1) (3yo+) 7f

2/1 Delegator, 5/1 Red Jazz, 10/1 Mabait, 10/1 Main Aim
12/1 Cat Junior, 12/1 Dream Eater, 16/1 High Standing
20/1 Duff, 20/1 Himalya, Shakespearean, 25/1 Harrison George 25/1 Sir Gerry, 33/1 Golden Stream, 50/1 Blue Angel.

* The Challenge Stakes is a Group race over 7f
* There are 20 renewals since 1990
* 18 of the 20 winners had between 9 and 14 career runs
* Horses with 13 or more starts struggled
* The only ones that won had Grade 1 form before
* Male 3 year olds are just 1-37 with 13 or more runs
* No 3 year old has won this down in distance

SHORTLIST

* DELEGATOR has 1 run this season
* A Few past winners had 2 runs but none had 1
* Thats the biggest problem he faces
* BLUE ANGEL has a surprisingly good profile
* She is very similar to the 2007 winner
* She is  close to 2 other winners
* In a race of shocks she could be interesting
* 3 Year Old fillies with 7-12 career starts
* Finishing 1-2-3-4 last time
* At least 6 runs this season
* These horses had a 4-6 record in this race
* The last 2 that won (2007 and 2000) were 20/1
* BLUE ANGEL is a possibly shock  winner.

It looks a ridiculous shout to go with BLUE ANGLE who
is 50/1 and more on Betfair and multiple bookmakers but the last 10 renewals have
seen horses win a 20/1 20/1 20/1 20/1 and 16/1 and they
were impossible to find as well so she may be able to nick
a place. I’m not keen on any of the alternatives so with a
risk of making myself look stupid I will go with her.

Definately more chance of losing with this bet than winning with it but the name of the game is long term edge and at 50/1 I sniff some value.
